About Jamaica Foundation for Islamic Charity

The Jamaica Foundation for Islamic Charity (JFIC) is a non-profit Charitable Organisation legally registered with the Government of Jamaica. It was founded in 2013 with the mandate of facilitating charitable, moral, and spiritual support to communities in Jamaica.

Our Mission is to provide solutions for poverty and hunger in Jamaica by assisting and empowering the poor and disenfranchised with their basic needs

JFIC partners with stakeholders including local Masaajids (Muslim places of worship), private sector organizations and international organizations to assist the needy with food and other essential items and pave a road towards self-empowerment. The work of JFIC is primarily funded by donations. Our goal is to work towards a solution to alleviating poverty within the Jamaican society via improvements in an individual’s standard of living.

Our Vision

Our vision is to create a Jamaican society of individuals who are empowered, self-motivated, morally, physically and spiritually healthy and determined to reach their fullest potential for which they were created, regardless of their background or current circumstances.

Our Story

How We Got Started

Brother Raymond Sullivan is 72 years old and lives at 20C Delacree Road, Maxfield Avenue, Kingston 20. He is an elderly, blind brother who lives alone. He has no form of income and no relatives. He attends Jumma salaat religiously on a weekly basis.

As part of his sadaqatuljariah initiative, he wanted his home to go to an Islamic charitable organization.  Thus, when Islamic Online University (IOU) announced its Community Service Requirements, three (3) IOU students, cognizant of the recession in Jamaica and the difficulties facing the ummah in Jamaica decided to develop a program whereby essential food items are packaged and distributed to the elderly, disabled and dis-enfranchised across the island.

Thus, the Jamaica Foundation for Islamic Charity was borne.  It was officially registered with the Government of Jamaica on 17th October 2013. It became an Approved Charitable Organization 3rd March 2014.
