Medical Expense Program

In addition to the Food Basket Program, one of the core objectives of the JFIC is “to provide assistance with medical expenses” for individuals within the community who are in need of:

• medical supplies,
• medical fees
• and medication

above and beyond what they can afford.
JFIC aims to assist with the expenses that are not covered by existing Government health programmes and supplements.

Case Spotlight

Sister T

Sister T contracted meningitis at the age of 4 and suffered profound hearing loss. She had lost the ability to walk and talk and had to re-learn how to creep all over again.

She regained her ability to speak but her vocal cords also suffered damage. Alhamdullilah she regained the ability to walk but her hearing loss was permanent. Now as an adult of 47 years, she hears much better with a hearing aid.

She has been quoted a price by the Jamaica Association for the Deaf but is unable to afford it. She is a divorced mother of one and is currently unemployed.
